Nilpoint is a virtual landscape simulator in digital space.

The basis of the project is a vertical shaft reaching from the center of the earth into the sky. A set of five virtual landscapes represent a distillation of the qualities of typical landscape in the outside world. Visitors exploring the imaginary landscapes make use of three experience machines, a series of filters between the inside and the outside. Nilpoint is researching the factors that determine our experience of landscape, both physical and mental. A library filled with landscape experiences is part of the project. Being accessible to a diverse, international public, this library will grow in time. Special guests and visitors will be invited to contribute. In a world in which computers and the internet are still gaining influence, the amount of time people spend inside consequently grows. Here Nilpoint brings some of the outside in. In a nearby future we might be no longer in need of the outside for our physical and mental wellbeing.
